2012 Maison Williams Chase Clos Vougeot

by: Williams Chase

Discovery

Forever an admirer of fine wines from Burgundy, I thought where better to visit than this small famous appellation? I was struck by the antiquity of the region and the dedication to winemaking of supreme quality.

Tasting Notes

With a perfumed nose of red and black fruits tending towards blackberry – this wine is already showing a magnificent richness despite its age. With creamy fruit on the palate it remains fresh and juicy; summer pudding in a glass! Liquorice and spice follow, and it becomes more solid. There is plenty of body to follow the initial elegance of the fruit, so whilst you can drink it young (5 years) it will only get better for the next 10-15.

Did you know?

- This was the flagship vineyard of the Cistercian monks who have lived here for centuries.

-Château de Clos Vougeot still exists with the original Cistercian cellar.

-This wine was featured in the film Babette’s Feast set in 1871.
